2009 Beginning 4-H Counselor Camp Information

8:30 am Saturday to 11:30 am Sunday
Youth with Adult Chaperons may arrive Friday, April 3 and stay overnight in the dorm if they wish. Rates are $17 per person.
PURPOSE: This workshop is intended for beginning counselors who want to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective camp counselor. Training for resource or outpost counselors will not be provided.
COST: The cost is $55.00 per youth participant and $35 per adult participant.
REGISTRATION: Participants must register through their County 4-H Office. Check with your County 4-H Office to find out the deadline date and requirements and registration process. All Counties must submitt their county registrations no later than March 23, 2009.
CANCELLATIONS: Anyone canceling before noon on March 23, 2009 will receive a 100% refund. After that date fees are non-refundable.
OBJECTIVES:
1. For youth to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful camp counselors.
2. To guide and support camp counselors in a positive learning experinence.
3. To develop a teamwork environment for future camp staff.
4. For youth to gain understanding of camp practices, purposes, programs and facilities.
PARTICIPANTS: Minimum age for Counselors is 14 as of Counselor Camp. Enrollment is limited to the first 100 participants.
CHAPERONES: Each County is expected to send at least one adult chaperon with their counselors. Counties sending more than 10 youth are expected to send one adult for every 10 youth.
SUBJECT MATTER: Expectations & Roles of a Counselor, Camp is for Campers, Great Ceremonies, Understanding Campers, A Safe and Inclusive Camp, Campfire Programs, Cabin-Time Activities, Group Games and Handling Difficult Situations.
ADULT EXPECTATIONS: Attending Adults will be expected to:
1. Come with a basic understanding of their county camp program.
2. Leave radios / music players / extra food / snacks & soda at home.
3. Serve as cabin chaperons.
4. Participate throughout the workshop as small group leaders and facilitators.
5. Observe counselor growth and play a lead role in their evaluation.
6. Provide positive and enthusiatic support for the planned program.
NOTE: All youth and adults must complete and turn in a health form and a counselor or adult expectation form. These forms will be mailed directly to all participants and/or they can be downloaded below. The health and expectation forms will be collected at registration on the first day of this workshop. All participants must have completed forms available upon arrival.
