Wisconsin 4-H Foundation

The application deadline for the 2009-10 Academic Year Scholarship applications has passed. Recipients of Wisconsin 4-H Foundation scholarships will be notified in May 2009.

The information and application below can be used as a guide for the 2010-11 Academic Year Scholarship opportunities. Applications for the 2010-11 Academic Year will be posted on this website and available at your County 4-H Office beginning in November 2009.

 

Scholarship Opportunities for the 2009-10 Academic Year

The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation and generous sponsors provide funding for these educational scholarships to outstanding Wisconsin 4-H youth. We are pleased to provide these scholarships in order to show our appreciation for your accomplishments as a result of your 4-H experiences, and to support your future educational goals.

Criteria, instructions, and Application

The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation's Scholarship application is available as both Word and editable Adobe Acrobat documents. The packet includes all criteria, instructions, and application. Please submit one appliation per scholarship area applied for. Applications must be word processed or typed and must be POSTMARKED by February 28, 2009 or they cannot be considered.

Who can apply?

  • Applicant must have a high school graduation date of June, 2009 or earlier.
  • Applicant must have been a Wisconsin 4-H member for at least one year.
  • Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll as an undergraduate in a university, college, or technical school during the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • Applicant must have a current grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicant must meet other eligibility requirements specific to individual scholarships.
  • Applicant is not eligible to receive a scholarship in an area they previously received one for.

How do I apply?

  • Scholarship applications are available beginning in November, 2008 and can be obtained at all county 4-H offices, by downloading it from the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation website www.uwex.edu/ces/4h/foundation, or by contacting the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation at donna.faulkner@uwex.edu or 608-262-1597.
  • Applications must be typed or word processed and complete or they cannot be considered.
  • Don't forget signatures, transcripts, or letter of recommendation. Incomplete applications cannot be considered.
  • Applications must be POSTMARKED by February 28, 2009 or they cannot be considered.  E-mail and fax copies of the scholarship application cannot be accepted.
  • Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a qualified, impartial committee.

  • Notification to all applicants will be sent via U.S. mail in May, 2009.

Following is a brief description of the scholarships available for the 2009-2010 academic year.

4-H Community Service Scholarships

Sponsor:

Francis & Phyllis Conrad Memorial Scholarships

Award: $750 (2 scholarships awarded)

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a university, college, or technical school located in Wisconsin.
  • Applicant must have demonstrated his/her commitment to community service.
  • Preference will be given to Clark County residents when there is a choice between equally qualified candidates. 

4-H Agricultural Scholarship

Sponsor:

LA-CO Industries, Inc.

Award:  $1,000 (1 scholarship awarded)

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a Wisconsin resident and have been a Wisconsin 4-H member for a minimum of one year. 
  • Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a university, college, or technical school. 
  • Applicant must be majoring in some aspect of agriculture and include some explanation of how they plan to use their education. 
  • Applicant must have a farm background or have been involved in agriculture-related 4-H activities. 
  • Applicant must have a current grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

4-H Leadership Scholarships

Sponsors:

Culver’s Frozen Custard Scholarships

Award:  $1,000 (2 scholarships awarded)

Russell Robinson Memorial Scholarship

Award:  $1,000 (1 scholarship awarded)

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have been active in a 4-H youth leadership activity for at least three years.
  • Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a university, college, or technical school.
  • Applicant must complete a ½ page essay entitled “The Most Valuable Lessons I Learned From My 4-H Leadership Experience”.  The essay should discuss what skills or knowledge was learned from their 4-H leadership activities, and how these lessons might be helpful in their future.

Betty Krueger Memorial 4-H Scholarship

Sponsor:

Betty Krueger Memorial Scholarship Fund

Award: $500 Scholarship (1 scholarship awarded)

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have been a 4-H member for a minimum of five years.
  • Applicant must be enrolling or enrolled at a Wisconsin college or university.
  • Applicant must be majoring in agriculture or family living.
  • Preference will be given to Dane County residents when there is a choice between equally qualified candidates.

4-H Family, Home, & Health Scholarship

Sponsor:

Elizabeth Salter-Eby Memorial Scholarship

Award:  $500 (1 scholarship awarded)

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have been active in a 4-H youth leadership activity for at least one year.
  • Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in the School of Family and Consumer Education (Home Economics) at any of the University of Wisconsin campuses.

4-H Natural Resources & Environmental Education Scholarship

Sponsor:

Whitetails Unlimited, Inc. Scholarship

Award:  $500 (1 scholarship awarded)

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have been active in a 4-H Natural Resources and Environmental Education Project for at least one year.
  • Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a university, college, or technical school.

4-H Animal Sciences Scholarships

Sponsor:

Oscar G. & Mary M. Woelfel Memorial Scholarships

Award: $750 (2 scholarships awarded)

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at any of the University of Wisconsin campuses.
  • Applicant must have a current grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicant must be from a rural community outside of Dane, Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine counties.

4-H Horse Scholarships

Sponsor:

Wisconsin Horse Association

Award: $1,000 (5 scholarships awarded)

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have been a Wisconsin 4-H Horse and Pony Project member for a minimum of three years.
  • Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a university, college, or technical school. 
  • Preference will be given to youth who have volunteered at Wisconsin State 4-H Horse Association activities and events and/or held youth leadership positions within the Wisconsin State 4-H Horse Association.
